North America
Anyone who has ever grown up riding horses has always wanted to be a cowboy. Whether you dream of a “City Slickers” type adventure or simply to immerse yourself into the history of the Wild West, a ranch holiday or riding holiday in North America is on most peoples bucket list. Even those who don’t normally think about riding horses can be tempted by the thought of riding across the prairie, stopping for bacon and beans by the campfire and bringing the cattle home to the range.

The USA is the first destination most people think of when planning a ranch holiday. The vast grasslands of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Colorado, where herds of cattle roam the flatlands and dramatic mountains highlight the horizon.
Some of our ranches in Wyoming are still genuine working ranches, where activities will revolve around the cattle and whatever needs doing at that time of year - perhaps moving them from spring to summer pastures, or calving, or branding. The focus is on getting involved and experiencing a true ranch experience.
Other ranches, such as those in Arizona or Georgia, are more of a vacation where you ride out on trails. In Arizona you discover the desert, with cacti and almost year-round sunshine, whilst Georgia is much greener and very relaxed.
To the far north, there are also cattle ranch holidays in Canada as well as fabulous riding trails supported by pack horses where you can get deep into Banff national park.
To the far south, Mexico is also a popular destination for riding holidays, with both centre based and mobile trails through the central highlands.
Riding in North America is also synonymous with Western Riding and most riding holidays here will involve riding in Western saddles. Western riding generally involves riding with a very loose rein contact whilst holding the reins in just one hand. Western saddles also offer a more relaxed way of riding and so many beginners learn on ranch holidays, with a lot of ranches catering for all abilities as well as non-riders.
